Britt and I did a mini-photoshoot a couple days ago, so I could get a few new pieces listed. I've been working on adding some more dresses to the shop, as well as a variety of other pieces. I'm hoping to get a lot more listed during February, but here is a sampling of the new items currently in my shop:

Thrifty Outfit

I've been busy this last week sewing quite a bit. I have some super cute stuff to put in the shop and I can't wait until I get a chance to photograph everything. The irony is with all the clothes I've been sewing, I haven't made anything for myself in ages! There is more than enough fabric in my personal stash, so I'm going to need to find time to try out a new 1940s blouse pattern.

I have however added a few items to my closet. My grandma was giving away a bunch of clothes so I scooped quite a few of them. Nothing vintage unfortunately, but a couple cute jackets and serviceable skirts. Today's outfit is consisted of nearly all gifted or repaired clothing. Other than the shoes and sunglasses, everything was either destined for the donation pile or in need of repair. I like to think that makes this basically a "free" outfit.   

I'm quite eco-conscious, so I love it when I can re-use and/or fix things. And being thrifty certainly helps the ol' bank account.

Skiing (1910s/early 1920s)

With all the snow we have been getting lately, I have been out skiing quite a bit. Cross-country skiing is one of my favourite winter activities. Below are a few images for some skiing outfit inspiration (the first is from the early 1920s, the second two are circa 1910). I love the idea of skiing in knickers. It seems like it would provide a lot of freedom of movement, but with the right socks would still be quite warm.

I've never heard of the above sport before, but it looks both very fun and very dangerous! The video below contains a short clip of people doing something very similar, behind both horses and a car (around 2:50). I love the skating outfit the girl has one at the beginning too.

Purple Knits

Happy New Year everyone! My first outfit post of the 2014 is actually from 2013, I just didn't get around to posting it. This was one of my holiday outfits. The top and socks were both knit by me. The top I made a couple years ago and was adapted from a 1920s pattern. The socks were done with my favourite free sock pattern, which can be found here. They are super easy, and knitted flat so you can easily do two at a time.

The yarn I used for these socks was Queensland Collection Leché and one of the nicest yarns I've had the pleasure of using. It has milk protein in it and is incredibly soft. Handknit socks are such a luxury. This pair cost about $25 in yarn and would be closer to $250 if I included my labor. But boy are they worth it!

Well back to the sewing machine. I'm hoping to get another batch of clothing for the shop released sometime in January, and maybe sew a few things for myself too!

2013 Outfits

It's hard to believe the year is almost over already! Wasn't it January only yesterday? A lot of bloggers have been doing year-end outfit roundups and I thought I would be unoriginal and do the same. I love seeing how ones personal style can change with the seasons. 

So without further ado, here are my favourite outfits from each month of 2013 (except July since I didn't post any outfit shots):

We made it!

We made it through Christmas without losing power again! There is still a risk of losing power, due to the heavy ice still on the branches, but hopefully the worst is over. Our neighbors only just had their power restored yesterday. 

Christmas day was lovely. I received some lovely gifts, including a bunch of jigsaw puzzles, a cast iron loaf pan, and a spinning wheel. My dad made me the spinning wheel based on plans I found for a small compact model, although he didn't quite get it done due to the power outage. I will post pictures as soon as it is finished (and I figure out how to work it!).

Ice Storm

This may be my last post until after Christmas if the power goes out again. We were hit by a really bad ice storm on the weekend and have been without power or heat. We've been luckier than most, and our power was only out for about 20 hours in total. Some folks may not get power until after Christmas! The storm is over but there is still a danger of the heavy ice covered branches coming down on the power lines.

Power lines! Please, please stay up there!

This was our drive way

A lot of our friends and neighbors are still without power. This time of a year power outages are more than just an inconvenience; they are downright dangerous. I was very concerned about my cat freezing to death, but she seemed warmer than the rest of us. I hope everyone still without power is staying safe and has found somewhere warm to stay.
