During a renovation a few years ago the cistern was removed from the basement. When my father started to remove the walls, he discovered that over the years people had thrown their garbage in it. As a result I know have a lovely little bottle collection. Here are some of my favourites that still have their labels:
And my personal favourite:
That's All.
I work in an archaeology lab, and clean bottles like that pretty often. It's so cool to see the same types of bottles with all the labels still on

Whoever lived there obviously took care of their hair!! More than their teeth judging by the numbers of bottles. ;)
ReplyDeletehow fantastic! Really highlights how ugly our modern packaging (and thus garbage) really is by contrast!
ReplyDeleteaww i love old bottles! and can't believe the labels are still so bright and clear! what a fantastic find! bet you're chuffed to have come across them?

Oh wow, what a lovely way to start a collection. Such a great story! I agree with the Baroness ,it really shows up modern day packaging, these are all so beautiful. x
ReplyDeleteI have to ask if you love the Pepsodent bottle because you've seen South Pacific too many times as I have?
ReplyDelete@ Lauren Hairston: Hahaha no, actually it is because I have listened to too many Bob Hope radio recordings (i.e. "The Pepsodent Show with Bob Hope")
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure you found! My g/f also works in archaeology and she collects bottles for me. Of course, they don't usually have labels when she pulls them out of the ground! Those are very cool!
ReplyDeleteHa! I love these, old advertising is simply the best! great post! xox
