Convict 13 Outfit

I've been so busy working on sewing blouses for my new Etsy store (hopefully out later this month) and property hunting, that I haven't had much time for anything else. So while I have no outfit photos or tutorials today, I did want to share some outfit screen shots. They are from the 1920 Buster Keaton movie Convict 13. I just loved Sybil Seely's outfit! I quite like the look of the belted scarf and have been wearing it myself a bit lately. Now where can I get a fuzzy beret?

  1. Really lovely 1920s look - it would be relatively easy to recreate, too.

  2. Nice look with the belted scarf. Looks like a sweater on under that. Sometimes it can be difficult to truly recreate the looks from the first third of the century because of the particular foundation garments they wore, giving their torsos a very distinctive shape. You probably know what I mean--kind of rounded beneath the bust, like a holdover from the Victorian corsets.

Anyway, I *love* Buster Keaton films. Just this summer I learned about Harold Lloyd, another silent film star famous in his time but now forgotton. I feel like a whole new world of films has been opened up! Some of his work is slightly earlier than Keaton's, so you get to see, for instance, more fashions from the 1910s. If you're interested, and with apologies for the self link, I recently wrote a modest blogpost about him and his work.
