Faux Fur Collar

On windy day a couple weeks ago, I had the overwhelming urge to sew myself something. I haven't made anything for my own wardrobe in quite a while, and it was lovely to sew something without worrying as much about the final product. I decided to make myself a detachable fur collar from some scrap faux fur my friend gave to me.

I based the collar off this image from the 1930s, as well as this one.  The faux fur I used is a different colour, but I kept the design very close to the original. It's a little silly and very dramatic.

Apologizes if there is a bit of radio silence from my end over the next few weeks (and past week as well). I've been having a few health problems, which my doctor assures me is just stress (which is kind of ironic as my major stress lately has been how poorly I've been feeling). It's bad enough that I honestly thought I had a kidney infection or something quite serious until all my test results came back negative. So I am making a big effort to chill out. I do loving blogging so I plan on continuing, however it may be a little sporadic for a bit. Hopefully I can get back to normal soon. I think more yoga is in order!

I would love to know how other people destress. I used to knit as my major stress reliever, but with my wrists that's no longer an option. Any suggestions?

That's All.

  1. I destress by gardening - it always seem to work for me. The only snag is that it is difficult to do so in the depths of winter!

I hope that you are soon feeling much better.

I like the length of your skirt (or maybe it is a dress). I have to wear black for work and find too many skirts are far too short to meet my modesty standards

    1. I love gardening, but my little patch is too small to spend any large amount of time on. The rest is my dad's domain and we have different viewpoints on how things should be done so I'm not allowed to "help". (For example I love dandelions, especially cooked in a bit of butter, and he just wants to kill them all.) I have my fingers crossed we buy a bigger property so I can flex my gardening muscles a bit more.

And thanks! Yes, it's a skirt. I love long skirts just because of how comfortable they are. I picked this one up at a thrift store a couple years ago.

  2. Your fur collar is stunning, but I actually popped over to say your health symptoms sound like it might be an autoimmune disorder. My health deteriorated for a couple of years until I found a doctor who tested my ANA levels; all of my other blood work is normal. Otherwise, I suggest the Power of Now, tea, bubble baths, painting, sitting in the sun... Good luck!

    1. Thanks for the suggestion! If I'm not doing better in a week or so, I'm going to go back in and get another batch of tests done. I will ask about testing my ANA levels, in addition to anything else I can think of (including testing for lyme disease as I have been near areas reported to have lyme infected ticks).

  3. As I was reading, my first though was that you should knit for stress relief. Knitting is my sanity, I would be an absolute basket case without my knitting. I'm so sorry to hear about your wrists! Other than knitting, I suggest yoga and going for walks. Nice spring time walks really help me when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Take care of yourself and good luck to you.

    1. Yes, going without knitting is pretty difficult. I still have a massive stash of lovely yarn and can occasionally do a bit of knitting, but nothing like I used to. It really sucks!

Walking more sounds like a good idea. I have a seasons pass to all the local conservation areas, so I will try to put it to more use.

  4. I love your faux fur collar :-D

Kate, I am so sorry that you are not feel well. I know all too well about stress and how ill that can make one feel. I distress by taking long hot soaks in my tub, I lay down and listen to audio books with my eyes closed and do some deep breathing. I love books and I love to read but I have recently discovered that listening to audio books whilst lying down is very relaxing. Walking in nature is lovely as well. A nice cup of tea and a good book under a tree this time of year. Or just a nice cup of tea and a good book anywhere :-) I hope you feel better soon.

    1. Ooo, audio books is a great idea! I've never tried any before, but I love old radio programs so I suspect I would like audio books as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

  5. What a breathtakingly gorgeous fur! Way to go on scoring it, dear gal! It looks stunning on you and really compliments your hair colour, too.
