St. Patrick's Day

I'm not Irish, I don't drink, and I'm not going out to any parties today. Nevertheless I decided to be festive and wore a green dress to work. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

1950's/60's Dress: Adelines Attic
Shoes: Winners
Jacket: Costa Blanca

I also got these super cute sunglasses at the mall yesterday. I have been looking for a pair of cateye sunglasses for over a year and I finally found some. Yay! I ended up buying them from Icings.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!!
I hope everyone's holiday is going well. I am finally enjoying a much needed rest. Yesterday we hosted the Christmas celebration for my moms side of the family. We were supposed to be visiting my dads side of the family on boxing day, but due to my uncles work schedule, we are no longer sure when we will get to see them.
Anyways, yesterday went better than expected. My cousin was recently married, with means there was a lot more people to entertain than normal. After scrambling to try and find enough table settings, chairs, and food for about 11 people, we settled down to a nice evening of chit-chat and food.

I was going to wear my Grandmothers old dress but due to fear of my uncles and cousins dogs accidentally tearing extremely delicate fabric I decided instead to wear this 1950s dress from Adelines Attic (and avoid the dogs as much as possible).
Not enough matching plates? A neat trick is to use a few plain white ones and place a small plate from the main set on top. This allows for a cohesive look, without needing to buy new plates!

I am always in charge of dessert making. This year I did a Gingerbread cake with Eggnog sauce, a Cherry Candy Cane Jello dessert (for lactose intolerant family members), and various other little chocolate goodies.

My parents, grandmother and I gathered around the tree to open our presents this morning. I got some lovely things (including some vintage dresses!). Here is a quick snapshot of a few things and one of the lovely wrapped gifts. I went eco-friendly this year and wrapped all my gifts in magazine pages.
Now I am off to stuff my face with left over goodies. This has been a very lazy Christmas day, and I couldn't have asked for a better present.

That's All.

Last Post of the Term!

Just a quick update:
Exams are nearly done! One more tomorrow, followed by moving out of the apartment. Going to be a very, very busy day tomorrow... I haven't been up to much other than studying. Which means I haven't been leaving my room so no pretty outfits. Pajamas have been basically all I have been wearing this last week.
I did get dressed for my exams though. I even bothered to do my hair one day. (No pictures of my face. I woke up that day and the circles under my eyes were so bad it looked like I got punched in the face!)
Starting on Christmas Day I am hoping to do a succession of outfit posts of my holiday party looks. At the moment I am thinking about one every other day for about a week. That seems a bit ambitious though, so it may be scaled down to one big post.

Well I should start packing.
That's All.

Photoshoots, Treasures and a Giveaway! (Extended until Oct 29th)

Thanksgiving weekend was a lot of fun! On Saturday I had a photoshoot with my friend Britt. These are my favourite of the photos (there were close to 300photos in total!)

The two other days of the long weekend was spend with family (I love family trips to the coffee shop. Mmmm Chai Lattes.....). One of the best parts of being home is being surrounded by my favourite treasures. Most of my favourite things stay at home when I am at school (in order to prevent them being damaged in transit) and I really do miss them.

My Teacups!

Northern Electric Telephone Circa 1940
(Still works!)

One of the many sewing projects I will finish... someday...

I love this teapot! It belonged to my great-grandmother. It was up at the cottage but I rescued it from certain destruction last time I was up.

Some really old books I've found at used books sales (the newest one is from 1911!). The lovely bookends were a wedding present to my grandma when she got married in the 1940s. They look very art deco!

And now for the giveaway! To celebrate reaching 50 followers, I am giving away:
1) A green and silver necklace (I used to make and sell jewelery at craft-sales. I no longer have time but I have lots of leftover necklaces!)
2) Disk 1 of Philip Marlowe radio broadcasts (from otrcat.com)
3) A little knitted bow attached to a hair clip, knitted by me :)

This giveaway is open to all my followers. Just leave me a comment telling me what you would like to see more of on my blog :) For an extra entry you can post about my giveaway on your blog and just let me know you have done so. Last day to enter is Friday October 22nd. Good luck!

One last thing, I just wanted to thank Sara for also giving me this award. See the previous post for the blogs I nominated :)
That's All.

Turkey Day! (Or Tofurky Day for all the vegetarians out there!)

Whew, what a week! I have been so busy I almost haven't had time to blog! This is just a quick little update post before I get packed to go home for the holiday weekend.
Let me just say how extremely thrilled I am to have reached 50 followers!!!! I honestly never thought anyone but me would read this blog so having so many followers makes me really happy. Thank you for reading! As dictated by blogging tradition, I will be having a giveaway to celebrate :) I will give you ladies more info in my next post.

I have been so busy studying and working on projects I haven't had much time for anything fun. Today I had a bit of free time, so I managed to squeeze in an hour at the antique market. I got quite a few postcards for my collection, although I didn't find any good magazines :(
I am so happy to be going home for Thanksgiving. As a vegetarian I won't be having turkey but I will be having tofurky! Yum! (I realize tofu turkey sounds really gross but it is actually quite yummy). Happy Turkey/Tofurky Day everyone!
One last thing, Frl. Irene Palfy has nominated me for "One Lovely Blog Award"! Thank you so much!!!! I am absolutely delighted to receive my first blogging award :)
The conditions that come along with this reward are:
1. Accept the award. Post it on your blog along with the name of the person who awarded it along with a link to their blog.
2. Pay it forward to 15 other bloggers that you have recently discovered.
3. Contact those bloggers and let them know they've been chosen.

Picking 15 bloggers that I have recently discovered was rather difficult. I love so many blogs but here are some of the ones I have discovered recently:

Yes I know that only equals 11 blogs but that's all I can think of right now :)
