Summer Inspiration

I hadn't planned on posting again so soon, but I'm avoiding school work at the moment so I thought I might as well. There seems to be a lack of inspiration in the blogging community lately. I suppose it's partly due to summer, and I know I've been feeling it too.

As such, I have been looking at some of my magazines I managed to digitalize before I left home (I had planned on scanning images from my entire collection but only had time to do 3 magazines unfortunately). Luckily one of the magazines I scanned includes lots of pretty dresses for spring and summer. Here are some of my favourite images to bring a bit of summer inspiration:

That's All

PS: It looks like I'm going to be all alone on my birthday. Anyone have any suggestions for something special I can do? I really wanted a teaparty but that seems a little pathetic to do all by myself.

  2. @fabriquefantastique: Thanks! Although my birthday is still a few days away. I'm just starting to make plans for it.

  3. I know exactly what you're talking about with the lack of inspiration. It's so hot here it's hard to do anything but lie around semi-conscious. I know a lot of places are having an intense heat wave at present. I always have trouble deciding what to cook when it's this hot, because I don't really want to cook anything at all!

I just want to say that it's crap that you have to spend your birthday by yourself. If you were to come to Wichita, I would entertain you! Or you could dress up as Sebastian Flyte and take your teddy bear to tea. Or you could take a really good book. But I vote for the bear.

  4. Yeah, the blog-o-sphere has been QUIET. Thanks for perking things up a bit with these images. LOVIN the halter back page.

As for your birthday, if you get yourself down to Waterdown, missy, I'll take you for a vintage tea for two at the White House tea house in a flash. Seriously!!!

  5. These are fabulous inspiration images, thanks for sharing! I've got a sundress pattern similar to the white one on the halter page ("Sunback Dress") and I just saw some cream colored rayon at Jo-anns tonight. I think I need to go back and buy the whole bolt and make a summer wardrobe.

Happy happy Birthday! You should take the Baroness up on her offer. :)

  6. Sorry, but what year is this magazine? '38? '39?

  7. In 'Let The Sun Shine On You', it's quite funny how two of the designs are fabulously beach-ready and relaxed, and the other (to my eye) looks rather stuffy! Well, I suppose some might have found the more relaxed versions rather racy, and they aren't that practical for everyday wear.

  8. Just wanted to say Hello and tell you I am so happy to found your blog...you are right up my alley, I wonder what took me so long!
I have spent birthdays alone, it takes effort to go do something special, but I suggest 'making a memory'. Go see something or do something you'll remember, something you always have in the back of your mind but you've put off.
(But I'd go to tea with the Baroness!)

  9. Thanks everyone for the lovely comments :)

@Beth: Whoops, I just noticed the date is cut off in the first image. They are from 1938.

@BaronessVonVintage: If I had anyway of getting to Waterdown I would definitely take you up on your offer!! I don't have a car, nor anyone I could get a lift from at the moment unfortunately :(
