Printing Press

A couple weeks ago, my family was invited to attend a printing demonstration at Black Creek Pioneer Village. (My mother's grandfather originally donated the press back in the 1960's, hence the reason for the invitation.) The press has been restored to it's original 1860's condition and they were printing on it that day as a special event. My mother's family owned and operated a local newspaper, and my mom has often talked about growing up around the newspaper office. It was fantastic is finally get a chance to see this part of my family history.

(I don't think this will actually play on here as a video, but it gives you an idea of what it looked like in action)

While we were there, we did the full tour and checked out all the great historical buildings. The house pictured below was my favourite. I wanted to move in!

I love heritage breeds!

I didn't take an outfit photo that day, as I've had a wicked cold and wasn't looking my sparkling best. However, I thought I would tack on my work outfit from a couple days ago. It was supposed to be Victorian inspired, but came out a bit more 1930's to my mind.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

That's All.

  1. That's so neat about the printing press!

    I love your work outfit.

Have you ever watch the Miss Fisher mysteries on Netflix? I think you'd love the fashion.

P.S. This is Elizabeth from Etsy who has ordered a few items from your shop this year :-)

    1. Thanks :) And yes, I love Miss Fishers! I don't have Netflix, but the local library has them on dvd. I haven't quite managed to see all of the second season yet, but am enjoying it immensely. The costuming is just wonderful

  2. Absolutely lovely post! Black Creek was bar none one of my favourite places I saw/visited while living in the GTA. If I'm back that way again, I'd love to pop by for a day and see all the wonderful historical sites there for a second time. Living historical parks and ghost towns will always hold an especially dear spot in my heart, as my first real (aka, not babysitting and the like) job as a teenager was as a waitress at one in the (once massively famous) little town of Barkerville here in BC.
